The school choir, musical events and performing
We believe that music enriches the lives of people, and so we wish to involve as many children as possible in musical activities. Each week there is a Singing Assembly for KS1 and KS2 led by the music coordinator and KS2 leader. Opportunities are also provided for performances in class assemblies and termly productions.
The choir has opportunities to perform both in and outside of school. Historically the choir has taken part in the local schools choir competition at INTU shopping centre. Our most recent opportunity to performance at INTU shopping centre was December 2016.
There are Christmas Productions for Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 classes which have musical themes and involve all children. In addition to this, for the younger children, 'Singing Playground' provides the opportunity for children to learn singing techniques through play.
The older children participate in a Christmas celebration at the local church to which parents are invited.
All of key stage two has had the opportunity to perform at the BBC Ten piece Orchestra Concert 2015 where they performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. It was a prestigious opportunity to attend an ambitious initiative for primary school pupils which aimed to open up a world of classical music to a generation of children. It was led by the BBC Learning and the BBC performing groups designed to act as a gateway to children, to learn more about classical music and inspire them to use music as a stimulus for their own creativity.
In spring 2016, choir has been invited to perform with other primary schools at the Young Sounds concert with Derby city and Derbyshire Wind Band. Only two schools were selected from the City to perform.
