RESPECT AGENDA Embedding British Values in everyday actions and expectations

Our RESPECT Agenda

At Ashgate Primary School, we believe that children learn best when they feel happy, safe, valued and supported. Our RESPECT Agenda is at the heart of school life and helps us create a caring community where everyone can thrive.

Through our RESPECT Agenda, we encourage every child to make positive choices, develop a strong character and achieve their full potential.  We want our children to become confident learners, kind friends and responsible citizens.

We work closely with families to ensure every child feels a sense of belonging and is inspired to achieve their very best.

Together, we are Moving Forward, Aiming High.

  • Responsibility – taking ownership of our actions and learning.
  • Equality – valuing and respecting everyone.
  • Skill Development – embracing challenges and lifelong learning.
  • Positive Participation – getting involved and making a difference.
  • Exceeding Expectations – always striving to do our best.
  • Clever Choices – making thoughtful decisions for ourselves and others.
  • Tirelessness – showing resilience and never giving up.

The R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Agenda promotes key British Values in a way that is accessible, meaningful and relevant to all children. It provides clear expectations and practical actions that help pupils understand and demonstrate positive values in their everyday lives.

Designed as a bespoke and age-appropriate approach, the agenda encourages consistency across the school community while developing pupils' confidence to question, challenge and resist negative influences. This ranges from everyday peer pressure to more extreme or radical viewpoints, helping children become responsible, thoughtful and resilient citizens.

The R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Agenda also celebrates and rewards pupils who consistently demonstrate positive attitudes, behaviours and learning habits. It helps create a culture where making the right choices is valued and recognised. Importantly, it shines a light on those pupils whose excellent conduct and commitment to learning may otherwise go unnoticed because they rarely require additional support or intervention.

The principles of the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Agenda are universal. Whether a child is beginning their personal development journey or refining existing strengths, the agenda provides a framework for growth. It benefits all pupils, regardless of background, context or stage of development, supporting them to become respectful, responsible and successful members of their community.

Moving Forward, Aiming High.
