Dear parents and carers
Safeguarding Notice: CatNap cartoon (You Tube)
Content can be graphic, and include images of significant harm, abduction and foul language
Parents have made me aware of a current video/cartoon available online called ‘Cat Nap’ which may not be age-appropriate and include content that is traumatic to young children, includes references to harm and contains foul language.
Although this cartoon may appear innocent at first glance, it has resulted in some children being fearful, traumatised and/or displaying threatening behaviours. We have now witnessed this in school and the link to CatNap viewing is central.
Parents and carers are therefore advised to be cautious of unmonitored viewing of this cartoon. As always, parents are reminded that unmonitored access to tablets and online devices places children at significant risk.
Beware: the nature of cartoons has changed. We no longer live in an era where cartoons are for children and content, whilst superficially innocent, is often graphic and inappropriate. This is only one of what I suspect are many such cartoons on line.
Dear parents and carers
In light of the government announcement that it is planning to introduce new guidance for schools regarding the teaching of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) I remind you that the full school RSE curriculum is available on our school website.
Conscious as I am that the press, and politicians alike, are often found to make statements designed to ‘polarise views’ and provide ‘sensational headlines’ pre-election, parents are assured that the school RSE curriculum is fully compliant with the current DfE guidance and would continue to be with the ‘reported’ draft guidance.
To view the school RSE curriculum, visit the school homepage and click on ‘Curriculum’, the tab ‘Relationships and Sex Education’. Likewise, the school RSE policy is available for all to view by clicking ‘Key information’ > ‘Policies and Documents’, > ‘Relationships and Sex Education'.
As such, only plain water is to be contained within drink bottles in class unless there is a medical stipulation for alternative drinks, evidenced and directed by medical practitioners, or where a specific SEND need has been identified that stipulates alternative methods for hydration.
Water can be accessed by all and children are free to refill their drink containers. Children in the Early Years / Reception classes are also offered a milk drink daily. Fruit drinks and similar may be included in lunch boxes, however, these are not to be 'fizzy'. Remember, that if you send your child with a milk drink in their packed lunch, this will not be refrigerated and therefore must by 'Long-Life/UHT' in nature.
Water should be the default drink for every child. The more it is offered, the more readily they will accept it. Sugary or sweetened drinks often have no nutritional value, contribute to weight gain, and can cause tooth decay.
Free, fresh drinking water must be available at all times.
