I have been informed by the police of two 'apps' that are being misused by adults regionally and nationally.
Two App names are used: Musical.ly and an APP called OOVOO
By way of summary
The concern was raised via a safeguarding alert from a school (not local). This APP is designed to allow the user to create music videos .
Pupils have been followed on line by a person who starts “liking” what they post and then initiates conversation. Very quickly the conversation progresses from ‘Hi, you’re cute’ to requesting the conversation moves privately to the OOVOO app.
Conversations on musically have rapidly moved to requests for live chat or uploads of indecent images.
Whilst there have been no reports of this nature at our school, we ask that parents and carers remain vigilant to use of internet devices, which may include telephones.
