  • Strike Action NEU

Mon 26 Jun 2023 Mr Seagent

I make parents aware that the National Education Union (NEU) have called on its members to take industrial action (strike action) on Wednesday July 5th and Friday July 7th.  This is likely to impact on pupils and families at Ashgate Primary School

As in the past, I will provide as much notice as possible to you as to which classes will be directly impacted by strike action.

Standard and previous arrangements will continue regarding critical worker status and provision of free school meals.

  • NEW: Wrap around care offer (Breakfast and after school club) WE NEED YOUR RESPONSES

Fri 23 Jun 2023 Mr Seargent

    Dear Parents and carers

    GREAT NEWS –

    BEFORE AND AFTER-SCHOOL CARE

I am delighted to announce that, subject to parental responses, Ashgate Primary School will be in a position to provide on-site ‘wrap-around care’ (breakfast club and after-school club) for pupils as of September.  The clubs will be run by ‘Y-Kidz’, a division of the YMCA.

Parents will be able to access the care based on their needs and other than booking to attend, there are no long term commitments needed.  When it suits you, book and attend.  It really will be as simple as that.

VERY IMPORTANT - REGISTER AN INTEREST BEFORE NEXT WEDNESDAY (28th)

In order to confirm the partnership, it is critical that parents complete the questionnaire via the link below.  This is not a commitment to anything and will only be used to support the planning for staffing and resources

The commencement of the wraparound care is dependent on parents completing the questionnaire!!

  • School holiday and INSET notice. Academic year 2023/24

Tue 20 Jun 2023 Mr Seargent

    Term 2023-2024

INSET days - School will be closed to all pupils on the following dates:

    • Monday 4th & Tuesday 5th September 2023
    • Monday 3rd June 2024
    • Monday 22nd & Tuesday 23rd July 2024

    What are inset days?

An inset day (an abbreviation of in-service training day), is one of a series of five days in most schools in the United Kingdom on which teaching sessions are not run and the pupils do not attend school. The staff are required to attend (on the day or in sessions twilighted accordingly) for training or to complete administrative tasks. Teachers can catch up with work and also have the opportunity to train for any new technology or new ways of doing things within the school.

INSET days have always occurred in some form (previously referred to as Baker days or considered as part of pupil holidays), however schools are now required to state when these sessions occur.

  • Mrs Winfield Absence

Fri 16 Jun 2023 Mr Seargent

Dear Parents and Carers of Children in Mrs Winfield’s class.

Unfortunately, last week, Mrs Winfield had an accident that resulted in her breaking her foot.  As such, she is unable to attend work at this time, and it is likely that she will be unable to return before the end of the summer term.

I am sure that you will join me in wishing her well and a speedy recovery.

For the remainder of the term, Mrs Warburton will work with the children as their class teacher.  This step is taken to ensure that the children finish off the term with someone familiar to them and who knows the routines and practices of the class.  Miss Warburton will of course be ably supported by Ms Vobes as the Key Stage and Early Years Leader.  I thank Miss Warburton for offering her services.

  • Ofsted inspection feedback.

Thu 08 Jun 2023 Mr Seargent

    Dear parents and carers.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all parents who made contributions to the Ofsted process over the last two days.  It was pleasing to hear from the Lead Inspector that the responses to the Parent View link were very positive.  Furthermore, many children were given the opportunity to present their views and experiences with the inspecting team (selected by the inspecting team I might add).  Their contributions were key to the process.

May I take this opportunity to thank my hard working and dedicated staff who all worked tirelessly to ensure that the evidence required to support the inspection was made available, whilst at the same time ensuring that the day-to-day educational running of the school was maintained.

    Outcomes:

Until the Ofsted findings are formally approved and quality assured, I am unable to publicly publish the outcomes.  However, what I can say at this time is that we are very pleased with the grades awarded in all areas.  Details will follow in due course.

Once again thank you to all who made a contribution.

  • Ofsted Visit - 6th and 7th June 2023

    Mon 05 Jun 2023 Ofsted

    05 June 2023

    Dear parent or carer

Inspection of Ashgate Primary School by Ofsted

We have just told your child's school that we will inspect it on 06 June 2023. The lead inspector will be Jayne Ashman, HMI. We are writing to you because we would like to know what you think about the school. Please take a few minutes to read the leaflet that came with this letter. It explains why we inspect schools and what happens during an inspection.

Your views about the school are important to us

If you are a registered parent or carer of a pupil at the school (including pupils on sick leave or who are temporarily excluded), you can tell us your views about the school by completing Ofsted's online survey, Ofsted Parent View, at: https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk.

Ofsted Parent View asks for your opinion on some aspects of your child's school, including the progress made by your child, the quality of teaching, how the school deals with bullying and poor behaviour. It also provides a free-text box for you to make additional comments, if you wish. The inspectors will use the online survey responses when inspecting your child's school. Written comments can also be sent to the school in a sealed envelope, marked confidential and addressed to the inspection team.

To register your views, you will need to provide your email address, which will be held securely. It will not be used for any purpose other than providing access to the online survey. Neither schools nor Ofsted will have access to any email addresses.

Please complete the online survey by 11am on 06 June 2023 as this will give the inspection team more time to consider your views. However, we will consider all online responses that are completed during the inspection, although the free-text box facility will not be available after noon on 07 June 2023.

    Speaking to an inspector

If you are unable to complete the online survey, it may be possible to speak to an inspector during the inspection, for instance at the start of the school day, or to pass on messages to the inspectors if you are unable to speak to them in person. Inspection administrators will be happy to make the necessary arrangements. If concerns are raised about child protection, we may have to pass the information we receive to social services or the police. You can contact the administrators on 03000131458. Inspectors will be pleased to receive your comments, but cannot deal with complaints about individual pupils or settle disputes between you and the school.

    Gathering personal information on inspection

Inspectors will gather any personal information necessary to assist them in inspecting a school. Our privacy policy sets out what personal information we collect, what we do with it, how long we keep it and individuals' rights under data protection legislation. The contact details for Ofsted's Data Protection Officer are: Email - informationrequest@ofsted.gov.uk; Post - Information management team, Ofsted, 2 Rivergate, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS1 6EH.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the online survey.

    Yours faithfully

    Jaril Rahman

    Inspection support administrator
